Review of Apapacho Gallery

On June 12 this documentary by Nicolas Echevarria will be released . Review of Apapacho Gallery can read the reason Echo Mountain was filmed.

Below is an excerpt of this review.

When imposing work in beads covering one of the walls of the station Palais Royal Metro in the Louvre, a gift from President Ernesto Zedillo to his French counterpart Jacques Chirac, Mr. Santos de la Torre, the Huichol artist was inaugurated in 1997 that gave it life, he was not invited. The cause: the Indian had publicly denounced exposed for nonpayment. 15 years later, after discovering the mural, film producer Michael FitzGerald decided, in his own words, to make a documentary about their origin so sought Nicolas Echevarria (Cabeza de Vaca, Maria Sabina, woman spirit Child Fidencio , caster’s Backbone), producer experienced in the production of films about the Indian world to track down his unknown author and filmed her story. The director and artist meeting set the tone for a tape of the offense to establish a journey through life and cosmogony of the Huichol people from a new work commissioned Don Santos. Echeverria accompanied the artist and his family on a tour of sacred places: from Wirikuta, emblematic place where the sun was born, according to Wixárika beliefs, to San Blas, Nayarit, where the man was created to ask the gods permission and wisdom necessary for the creation of a new mural.

The impeccable and masterful photography ( by Sebastian Hoffman ) shows an imposing reality while fluid camera work make our journey a vivid ritual. Perhaps the title, Echo Mountain , which refers to the Huichol name of Don Santos, may well have been Nierika because , as its creators the term means also “see” , ” be aware ” and “being alive” , the concept would be appropriate for a movie that it aims to open our eyes to another reality , full of vitality even threatened with death. The film works as does the inscription written Huichol behind their tables in the drawing that the meaning becomes clear. In it, the artist explains the elements of the mural that is documented , very different than in Paris. This , as a codex, serves as the film’s screenplay . Its development weaves in some ways , to the tape itself .
